About Nation1

Nation1 is a set of free worksheet generators for parents, teachers and tutors. Instead of a library of fixed PDFs, each page builds a fresh worksheet in your browser: math from counting to slope, name and letter tracing, cursive, spelling and grammar. Click New worksheet and you get new problems with a new answer key.

How the worksheets are made

Math problems come from small programs written for each skill, with rules that keep them sensible: fractions in questions are already in lowest terms, long division answers come out even unless you ask for remainders, and two-step equations always have whole-number solutions. Every generator is tested by building thousands of sheets and checking the answers.

Tracing letters use two open-licence handwriting fonts, Andika for print and Playwrite US Trad for cursive. The dashed midline on each row is set at the real height of the lowercase letters, so a child tracing an a or an e stops exactly at the dashes.

Grammar sentences are written by us for grades 2 to 5. If you spot a mistake in any sheet or answer key, it gets fixed.

Printing

The sheets are laid out for US Letter paper. In the print window choose Letter and 100% scale, or Save as PDF to keep a copy. A4 printers can use "Fit to page" and lose only a little margin.

The name

The address nation1.net once belonged to Nation.1, a youth project started in 1997 after a challenge from Nicholas Negroponte at the MIT Media Lab's 2B1 conference. It merged with TakingITGlobal in 2001 (Wikipedia). Today's Nation1 is a new, independent site with no connection to that project.
